Angie’s List was founded in 1995 by Angie Hicks and William S. Oesterle. The pair wanted to create a site that would allow consumers to review local services before and after they hire. Based out of Indianapolis, Indiana, Angie’s List has received quite a bit of notoriety as a reliable resource for information. The site boasts 40,000 new reviews added by users every month. The site still provides a valuable service, with a few extra features and benefits for users.

Angie’s List features a very professional design. The homepage is highlighted by an image of various completed projects, accompanied by a quote from a consumer. Users can click this to view the registration form, which asks for a zip code, email address, and password. After clicking the white “Continue” button at the bottom of the form, the user is asked to select from payment options. After entering financial information, the user can begin exploring Angie’s List.

What does it cost to use the application?

Users can choose from five payment options when registering for Angie’s List. These are all the same account type, but offer discounts when a longer membership period is selected ad paid for. The most expensive option is monthly, which runs just under $8 per month. Users can sign up for one year at about $30, two years at just over $50, three years for just over $70 or four years for just over $90. New members must also pay a $10 activation fee regardless of which payment option is selected.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Anyone who is very serious about a project and wants to hire the best professionals in their area can appreciate Angie’s List. The fact that the user must pay for access may be a bit of a turn off for anyone on a tight budget or working on a low priority project. The site includes an enormous number of reviews, with tens of thousands added monthly.
